Meeting with Bishop Juan Jose Pineda, auxiliary bishop of Tegucigalpa

"It is a very sad thing for me to say that one of our main problems and one of the main reasons we are poor is because of corruption. This is a Honduran problem - but it also comes from abroad. There are some foreign companies who are helping to stir up corruption here.

The Church is involved with mining issues because it belongs to the heart and life of the Church; it is part of the social doctrine of the Church. It is part of our work for human dignity because the current processes do not take care of the human person. This is the mission of the Church."

Juan Jose Pineda, auxiliary bishop of Tegucigalpa
